How to Analyze nginx Access Log
Your nginx access log contains a wealth of information about traffic, errors, and performance. Here's how to extract insights without installing any tools.
Step 1: Get your log file
nginx access logs are typically located at /var/log/nginx/access.log.
Download a copy to your local machine.
Step 2: Open in GigaSieve
Drag the file into GigaSieve. The app will stream-parse the file and show you lines immediately.
Step 3: Find 5xx errors
Use the filter: 502 or 504.
The Insights panel will show you the distribution of status codes.
Step 4: Identify top IPs
Check the Top Status Codes panel. If you see many 4xx errors from specific IPs, they might be bots or attackers.
